Celebrating our diverse and harmonious community in the Central Okanagan School District. This video was created by our Harmony Day Committee at SD23 in British Columbia, Canada, to promote mutual respect in a culturally diverse society.
WHAT IS HARMONY DAY?
Harmony Day recognizes that citizens of the Central Okanagan come from all over the world.
Harmony Day provides a yearly opportunity for the community of School District 23 to celebrate our culturally diverse society and commit ourselves to mutual respect.
"No one is born hating another person because of the color of his skin, or his background, or his religion. People must learn to hate, and if they can learn to hate, they can be taught to love, for love comes more naturally to the human heart than its opposite." Nelson Mandela
WHY IS HARMONY DAY IMPORTANT?
Harmony Day helps us:
Create sensitivity to and respect for differences
Commit to our district values - Respect, Responsibility, Honesty, Empathy and Fairness
Celebrate our diverse and harmonious society
Say 'no' to discrimination
Harmony Day allows us to focus on the values which underpin our mission:
"To educate students in a safe inspirational learning environment where every student develops the knowledge and skills to be a lifelong learner and a healthy productive member of our global society."
